A popular 80s pop duo will be putting on a rare intimate performance in Coventry in preparation for the Stepback 80s Christmas concert.

Go West will be performing live on stage at Coundon’s Rialto Reborn on Friday, November 30.

Lead vocalist Peter Cox and supporting vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player Richard Drummie are fast becoming favourites in Coventry, after being one of the most popular acts at the first Stepback 80s concert last year.

Go West were named the Best Newcomers at the Brit Awards in 1986 and enjoyed huge popularity in the mid-1980s and early 1990s.

Their biggest hits include We Close Our Eyes, Faithful, Don’t Look Down, Call Me and the King of Wishful Thinking, best known for featuring in hit Hollywood movie Pretty Woman.

Frontman Peter Cox lived in Coventry during the early stages of Go West’s rise to fame.

Rialto Reborn’s performance comes just under a month before Stepback 80s Christmas takes place in the Ericsson Indoor Arena at the Ricoh Arena.

The concert will also feature artists including Tony Hadley, Bonnie Tyler, ABC, Katrina and the Waves and Black Lace on Saturday, December 22.

The event is being promoted by Coventry-based Showtime Promotions.

Dan Nelmes, director of Rialto Reborn and Showtime Promotions, said: “After we saw the crowd reaction to Go West at the Ricoh Arena for Stepback, we knew we had to bring them to Rialto.

“We have attracted some huge names to the Rialto over the last 12 months and Go West are definitely in that category.

“The popular monthly 80s night we hold at the venue is a regular sell-out, it is clear there is a real appetite for 80s music in Coventry and the wider region, the 80s revival is well and truly here.

“It will be somewhat of a ‘warm-up’ gig for Go West ahead of the Stepback 80s Christmas concert, but we know they will be firing on all cylinders and deliver another incredible performance on the night.

“It’s a rare opportunity to see a group as well-known as Go West in an intimate venue like Rialto Reborn, we’re expecting a sell-out, so we’re encouraging fans to get their tickets before they are all gone.”

Go West will be joined on stage by a support act, who is yet to be confirmed. A live DJ will continue the party after the show, playing 80s music hits until 2am.

Doors open at Rialto Reborn on Saturday, November 30 from 7.30pm.
